About the Second Mafia War

The Second Mafia War was a conflict within the Mafia taking place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This war is sometimes referred to as The Great Mafia War or the Mattanza (Italian for, The Killing), involved the entire Mafia and radically altered the power balance within the organization.

The majority of the violence occured between 1981 and 1983, the first shots were fired in 1978, and the instigators and eventual victors had been preparing their strategy some years before.
